Vacuum to waste or filter

Hi all! Glad to be posting again after what felt like an endless winter.

Took the cover off today, got the pump and filter up and running. As expected pool is pretty filthy. Scooped out as much solid material as I could, letting the S200 take a few passes but I suspect I need to use the pump vacuum to get the last of the dirt.

Any reason to vacuum to waste in this situation vs vacuuming to the filter? I intend to deep clean the filter anyway.

Lose water in one case and will have to backwash and recoat with DE in the other case.

Yeah I’m gonna deep clean the filter anyway. So I’ll just keep the water.
