What's funny about that is the top assembly came with TWO O-rings and they tried both and both leaked. But I couldn't figure out what it came with TWO (a spare?).

I just replaced mine- $108 on amazon for the whole assembly, clamp, pressure gauge, and sight glass. Send the old back to Pentair if it's defective....

Super easy. Unscrew those two unions. Remove unions from assembly. Remove the two screws for the big clamp on the filter. Assembly lifts right out. Slap the new one in. Use plumbers sealant on the threads instead of teflon tape, it works much better.

What plumbers sealant ?? If you are talking about the three threaded fittings IN, OUT and WASTE they show having O rings to seal the pipe to the housing and the threaded collar is just to apply the clamping force to the O ring. There isn't any need to "seal" the threads. Might use a dab of silicone lube on them but not sealant !!
Ok. Mine are threaded right into the assembly for in/out/waste- no o-rings. Looks like your bulkhead fittings still thread into the multi-port, the o-rings are on the outside where the union is. You'll want a non hardening thread sealant like rectorseal (home depot/lowes/plumbing store)

You have a different part number that uses a different fitting. It's all coming clear now 
When looking up his part number those joints are supposed to be removable for service. This is the kit that has the three ends that go on the PCV pipes to seal up to the multiport threaded couplers. They use a captive O ring to seal. If you look close you can see a groove cut into the face of the fitting that would butt up against the flat face of the threaded fitting.

Oh that's cool. It'll work with my valve too. Thanks for the tip. Hard to believe those things are $45 when the whole valve assembly is $108.
