I am in the process of installing a140,000 btu heat pump (Raypak 8450) for my above ground pool. There will be 80' of underground cable. The circuit requires a 50 amp 2 pole GFCI and 6 awg wire. The wire will be installed in pvc conduit. I initially bought UF-B cable but after reviewing NEC (I know I should have done this first) I see that UF-B is not allowed and the cable must be THWN with insulated conductors and another requirement is that the wire be solid, not stranded. For the life of me I cannot find solid wire in the size I need that is THWN rated...only stranded. I can find solid wire in 10, 12 and 14 awg but cannot find THWN 6 awg solid wire. What to do????? Thanks in advance.
