I haven't filled out my siggy yet so here is a little background on my pool. Finished and filled 5/4/12. It is approx. 20,000 gallons, gunite with mini pebble finish. No spa, we have 3 sheer descents that we run for about an hour each night and 4-5 hours/day on the weekends. Triton II sand filter, Pentair Super II Pump, inline chlorinator. We live in Texas and temps here right now are in the mid-high 90's. I do my pool maintenance on Saturday mornings. When I tested this past Sat, the chlorine was at 0. Turns out there were no tabs in my inline, oops. My chlorine was a little low earlier in the week and I bumped up the dial on the inline from 4 to 5 which is the highest setting. I had added 4 tabs not too long ago and forgot to check to see how many tabs I had at that point so next thing I knew, it was totally out. I'm still trying to get in a rhythm with maintenance and learning the ins and outs of my pool and equipment. Water still looked clear and no issues so I filled it up with tabs and shocked the pool and added 1.5 qts muriatic acid. Tested the chlorine that evening and it was at 2.
I tested the water this morning at 8 am. Here are my full results: (K-2005 test kit used)
FC - 1
TC - 1
pH - 8 (it usually hangs out around 8 and I lower it with muriatic acid every week. Is 8 the highest that the test will register?)
TA - 120 (100 is what my builder said would be ideal)
CYA - 100 (50 is what my builder said would be ideal)
CH - 210
So what do you think? Do I need to lower my CYA, would that help my chlorine to stabilize? I just think I shouldn't have to add the Shockwave every Saturday. Would it be better or more accurate to test the water in the evening instead of first thing in the morning? My pump is set to run 8 a- 8p so when I test in the morning, it has been sitting all night. Also, any thoughts on running 2 cycles on my pump so that it isn't sitting there for 12 full hours with no circulation. Should I do 6 hours on 6 off instead?
Thanks in advance for your help!
