Pac Fab Triton II TR-50 Sand Filter with Zeobrite media
3/4 HP A.O. Smith E-Plus Pump (labeled HP=1.3?)
Hello All,
I originally asked a similar question over 5 years ago and thankfully my sand filter has lasted many seasons longer than I expected. It is finally time to replace my Triton II TR-50 which I believe to be undersized for my pool. I have been pretty happy with the filtration of my pool with this under sized filter but I am looking to replace the plunger valve with something that will allow for pumping directly to waste and recirculating after back-washing to prevent fine particles reentering the pool when switching back to filter.
Since I will have to redo the plumbing I am reaching out to the pros here for recommendations.
My current setup has the following limitations:
* Supply and return lines are 1.5" with a single skimmer and two returns. Plumbing increases to 2" to pump and filter.
* Current filter sits on a raised concrete base which will not accommodate a larger footprint without modification.
* 3/4 HP A.O. Smith E-Plus Pump (230V)
I am half tempted to replace the current set up with the same sand filter/ 2 position valve set up and figure a was to install a bypass to pump directly to waste but wanted everyone's feedback first.
Regarding filtration times, I have on and off peak electricity rates and run the pump during the off peak times which could be up to 18 hours a day if necessary. I usually run the pump 4 hours a day during the week and longer (up to 12 hours a day on weekends). The clarity is fine with the exception of the few times we had monsoons overflow the drainage ditch bringing fine desert dirt into the pool. This is when the undersized filter becomes quite apparent.
Any recommendations including the possibility of pump replacement?
Thanks in advance.
