Could you tell me will a high chlorine level effect Ph testing? I am shocking for algae and am wondering if I should test the Ph levels while keeping up my chlorine up to shock level. Thanks for the help, Cannwmor
Generally you shouldn't test PH while shocking. The PH test is reliable up to an FC level of 10, usable but not perfect from about FC 10 to 18, and useless at FC levels above that.
Next time you have to shock, I would lower the pH to around 7.2 beforeyou begin the shock process. Chlorine is more aggressive as a sanitizer at a lower pH. Don't overdo the pH adjustment, though...7.2 is a good target, but make sure you do not go below 7.0 under any circumstances.
Once you begin the shock process, do not bother testing the pH for the reasons Jason stated.
