SWG - No flow light blinking

Hello,
Yesterday, the pool guy told me the SWG motherboard stopped working. I went today to vacuum and noticed the no-flow light was blinking. Does this mean it actually works and the pool guy was wrong? I have the SWG off at the moment because I'm in the process of balancing the water and cleaning the pool. I haven't added salt yet. I don't want to shell out money for something that isn't broken.

When my SWG flow light is on, the first thing I do is backwash the filter which improves the circulation.

If that doesn't work then I take the SWG off and check the flow switch. I've had to replace 2-3 flow switches in 8 pool seasons.

I wonder how he diagnosed a motherboard issue? Or if it was just an educated/experienced guess?

Nikki,

Do you have a VS pump? If so, what speed is it running?

As Blue points out above, the most likely cause is a dirty filter.

It could also be a bad flow switch, bad flow switch cable, or a bad motherboard.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I went today to vacuum and noticed the no-flow light was blinking.
The no flow light blinks for 30 seconds when the flow switch first detects flow and then the light should go out.

If the light goes out, the flow is fine.

If the light turns solid, then that means no flow.

Once the No Flow light goes out, do the following:

For AquaRite, move the switch from auto to off and check all of the readings.

Move the switch back to auto and recheck the readings.

Move the switch to off for a minute and then back to auto and recheck the readings.

Report all readings.

What are the first seven characters of the cell and box serial numbers?

What is the actual salinity and how are you measuring it?

What is the T-cell size?

Is the T-cell size set correctly in settings?

To get the performance percentage of the cell, divide the instant salinity reading by the actual salinity reading.

You need to be really sure about the actual salinity reading.

You need to use a K-1766 salt test kit or a calibrated meter.

Pressing the diagnostic button sequentially will display:

  • Default salt display
  • Pool temp
  • Cell Voltage - When not generating, the voltage is about 30 to 32 volts dc. When generating, the voltage drops about 1 volt per amp of current.
  • Cell current
  • Desired output (% of the knob)
  • Instant salinity
  • Product name
  • Software revision (r.XX)
  • Cell type
