We recently installed a new Hayward 21 inch sand filter on our 27 foot round above ground pool. I never had this problem before the new filter. Whenever I try to vacuum the pool using either the handheld vacuum that came with the pool or my Wanda the Whale I have the same problem. As soon as I connect the vacuum’s hose into the skimmer, the hose that goes from the skimmer into the pump sucks together right before it goes in the filter. This causes the water to stop flowing into the filter and my vacuum hose to come out of the skimmer. It’s almost as if it’s sucking too hard and sucks the hose together, if that makes any sense. I have even tried to vacuum to waste and it does the same thing. We are using the same 1.5 horse pump that we used for the last 8 seasons. Any suggestions?

Using the same hose for both vacuums? Maybe the hose is plugged up.
try running garden hose through to make sure it’s clear.

or just hold one end of the hose to the return jet and blow a ton of water through it!!
Nope. Different hoses, and I always put one end on the return to prime it. They are both open.
