Hello !! Just reading you guys thread, I I have the same issue with noise on my starite heater (about 14 years old). I have the same noise and noticing that the heater will start and then ignite then shuts down never going above 58f degrees? Filter and baskets are clean. Someone had told me it might be the thermistor that would be the shut off problem, unsure of the rattling thou. Thoughts guys?? Thank you very much.... v r bob

My sta rite heater would not common and I noticed the water temp was reading 126. I checked on line and everyone pointed to the thermistor. I repealed the thermistor and still have the reading of 126? Any ideas?
When you first turn the unit on, the board displays several numbers and 126 is usually one of then. Does your system show the series of numbers when you power it up?
