Sputtering water coming out of return...

Hey guys:
I am about to close my pool. For the last month or so, I am getting a sporadic sputtering stream out of the return. Pressure seems to be fine on the pump, everything seems to work OK. I don't see any water leaking anywhere. Any idea what this could be ?

You are getting air into your system. Probably from a suction side air leak.

I'll have to look during the day, but how would I "see" air bubbles with water rapidly being sucked in ? The basket is always full and the water is hitting the transparent lid.
