Slamming pool DE filter clogging

So I am in the process of slamming my pool and this is the first time my pool has ever been this bad. I normally just run it year round but during the winter months my pump crapped out so it hasn't been running. I replaced the pump with a New hayward VS pump and while slamming the pool my DE filter keeps clogging up and stopping the water flow. in 2 days ive gone through 24lbs of DE powder back washing the filter to keep the pool going. My question is, is this normal while slamming an extremely dirty pool?

What are your water rates.. In my DFW area I can refill a 15 K pool for less than $100 bucks, so SLAMing does not always makes the most sense..

DE filters are very good and what you are experiencing is very normal.
