Shaft Seal Question

Quick question about the shaft seal. I have a Hayward SuperPump and am replacing the shaft seal after replacing the motor. Which side of the shaft seal touches the white porcelain piece that goes into the seal plate? Should it be the metal side in the first picture or the rubber side in the second picture?
 
Upon watching the full video, when he takes off the old seal from the impeller at around 8:16, the rubber side is up. Then when he re-attaches it, at the 13:00 min mark, the metal side is up. Did he make a mistake?
 
I've watched some other videos and it seems like the rubber side should meet the porcelain piece and the metal side should be on the bottom.
