I ordered four 1.5in schedule 40 unions online and I was sent schedule 80. While at Lowe's I grabbed a couple 1.5in schedule 40 unions for comparison. My rough calculations suggest approximately a 4% decrease in internal diameter on schedule 80 vs 40.
I'm using these unions on the piping for a new heat pump. It's a aquacal sq225 paired with a Hayward maxflow 500 vs pump. Spec sheet on the heater says a min/max of 30/70 gpm for flow. I feel like I'm already in a uphill battle with 1.5 inch piping. I would like to minimize restrictions as much as possible. Is a 4% decrease slowing down flow that much?
The beefy and robust sch 80 are nice though
