Saving a buried pool

We bought a house with a buried in ground pool in the back. We talked with the former
Owner and there was nothing wrong with it, he just didn’t want the maintenance. He said he busted up the bottom concrete but not the sides, piping, or anything else.

Is this salvageable?? It was a huge and beautiful pool and we REALLY want to save it and bring it back to life if we can.

I doubt it. If he broke up the bottom even if it's a liner pool you'd be hard pressed to find any builder willing to resurrect it for you. You are better off building new and paying to have that old pool properly removed.

Hmmmmm …. depends on how busted “busted up” is. If it’s just a few holes punched into the shell, then it could possibly be salvaged. If they smashed up the entire base, then it’s a goner.

Problem is, you will be hard pressed to find any contractor willing to dig up your backyard to go and find this thing. Most people with buried pools resurrect them on their own. And even if you do get it all dug out, there’s few PB that would be willing to work on an old damaged pool. So, if you want this pool back, you’re going to be doing most of the work yourself.

Some inspiration and ideas of what to expect.

Yeah, I think you would want a bit more info on the condition of the floor before you sink the money into the project. The variables that could make the project go from worth it to not would be if the shell is beyond reasonable repair, and if the plumbing needs replaced or not.

As it sits and if money is not an issue:
-Find the pool (Google earth has been a huge help with this for us)
-Assume pool is going to need new tile, coping, and interior. Possibly new skimmers depending on how the demo was done.
-Find a contractor to excavate the dirt from the pool.
-Locate and pressure test the plumbing lines.
-Repair pool floor.
-New pump/filter/equipment.
-New tile/coping/plaster.
