HOA residents are eager to get in the pool for the first time. We are currently at 7 ppm FC. Water is clear and FC is gradually dropping after shocking last night. Is 7 ppm okay for swimmers?
Clarification...it is safe for equipment and people at FC levels up to and including slam. For safety, you need to be able to see the bottom of the deepest part of the pool.
You should maintain FC above minimum and more appropriately in target range. If you need to add chlorine during the day take a 10 minute break and add liquid chlorine or turn up the SWCG during the day to handle the swimmer load. You should not have people in the pool with FC levels above SLAM.
Deepest part of the pool has always been visible, so no problem there. Thanks for the clarification on SLAM levels being safe for swimmers. Interesting that Illinois Swimming Facility Code requires that the pool be shut down if FC exceeds 5 ppm. I guess they don't understand the relationship between CYA and FC in this state! (FC of 5 is right in the middle of what is recommended by TFP for CYA level of 40.) And.... the regs here actually allow CYA to rise to 100 before the pool must be drained.... way beyond the high of 60 recommended by TFP.
In order to maintain FC below 5 ppm, I am going to have to make sure CYA does not rise above 50-60!
