Has anyone ever done it and did help with ice collection? I’m not going to run it once the freeze hits. Just maybe get the pool to 60-70 in advance?

I know all about freeze protect and still run pumps etc.

Dont do it... it will shorten the life of the heater and offer little to no benefit to the real danger which is water freezing up in your pipes or equipment.

Also, where in Texas are you? In the Dallas area the bad winter weather from last week is behind us and the extended forecast looks like our normal winter weather (freeze some nights, but only for a few hours at a time with many spring like days in between).
