I've got a 1960s era concrete pool that has some custom "raised" bullnose coping that is pretty tired and needs to be cleaned up.
In the long term (3-5 years), I plan to re-do the pool plumbing, re-do the concrete deck and to use this as an opportune time to re-do the coping as well... however given the cost and scope of this, I'm just looking to do some basic repairs this year until we are ready to engage in a larger project.
My current thinking is to chisel our the old mortar / thin set between the coping and to grind off any really uneven or badly damaged previous owner repaired areas. Is patching things up with a simple thin set or mortar the best product to use?
Any guidance on what sort of grinder attachment would be best for this? My research seems to show that a diamond carbide cup or diamond carbide wheel would be best -- I'm not looking to do major cutting, more just grinding and cleanup to prep for fresh paint.
