Live in New England, use the pool late June - early Sept.
20ft round / 12kgal above ground

We currently have a Hayward perflex EC40 system with Chlorinator. Our filter and pump is at its end of life so we're looking at replacing it.
We're thinking of changing to a SWG as well.
Looking for some recommendations as it seems a lot of the salt systems are for much higher gallon pools. We're trying to get something that won't break the bank but will last a decent amount of time.

Also wondering if we should go with the same filter/pump (Hayward EC40) or if we should do a cartridge setup instead. I've seen it mentioned that the backwashing with DE is not great for salt pools?

Any help appreciated.

Welcome to TFP.
Please look at this comparison chart of all the various types of SWCGs. We recommend a rating of 2x your pool volume so look for a minimum rating of 24k gals. Going bigger is better as it provides more options on pup run time and SWCG output values.

I have a DE filter and SWCG for years and there is no issue with backwash or filtering. Not sure why someone would say that.
