Hello I was helping my a friend open their in ground pool this weekend and we ran into a problem that I mentioned I would reach out and ask everyone here.

We removed the cover, moved water level above the returns and skimmer, removed plugs from returns and skimmer, connected all the plumbing, added the plugs to the pump and filter and turned on the pump however it does not seem like the pump is priming/getting suction from the pool.

The impeller is not clogged/blocked nor does it seem like the filter is. Is this potentially a matter of just not priming the filter enough or could there be another issue we are not thinking about?

It is a Hayward t-210 sand filter and super pump.

I assume I just need to keep doing that?
Sometimes yes. Some systems need to be pre-primed 2-3 times to finally fill that suction line well, especially if it's along line or there is an elevation change. If you don't get it after a few attempts, post back with some pics of the equipment pad.
