Pump will not start

I have a Pentair VS pump with a Hayward cartridge filter. I removed the basket to empty it of debris. I returned basket to pump and replaced cover. I opened the air pressure valve on top of filter as instructed in the manual. The pump was full of water & spuing out when I tried to close cover but I managed to fasten the lid back on. When I tried to restart the pump it would not restart. It’s a brand new pump & filter. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Any advice would help please.

So no indication of power at all? Any power showing at the pump controls? If not, have you checked the circuit breaker that supports that pump? Perhaps it tripped when you got water everywhere.
