Looking to replace Hayward 2HP single speed Northstar (230v) pump w/ a variable speed pump. Trying to figure out what size variable speed pump to get, and do you recommend a particular brand? All pool equipment is Hayward. TY!

For a DIY install Inyopools has a line of variable speed pumps (and even just motors if you wish to keep the wet end of your pump). They have an 18 month warranty.
The gold standard of VS pumps is the Pentair 011018. For a DIY install you get a 60 day warranty.

Do you have a Hayward pool automation system? I’ve had a Hayward TriStar VS (1.85hp) pump, and just recently bought a home with a version of Pentair’s Intelliflo 011018 (3hp). I can’t say one brand is better or worse, both were really easy to operate and maintain. If you have automation, or are future-prooofing, then maybe one may have benefits over the other.
