Pump over pressure

Our pool pump pressure is running over 30 lbs and all the filters and cartridges are clean. We even removed the cartridges and the pressure stays high. When this first happened, we cleaned the cartridges, there was white stringy junk in the cartridges. No idea what it was. The cartridges are only a few months old. Very low volume coming from two jets.

Called a pool repair service and they have done nothing to help.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
Does the pressure gauge go to zero when the pump is off?
If there is no change with the filters out, the issue is after the filters.
Check all valves. Do you have a heater? Any other items the water flows through after the filter?

Welcome to TFP! Some more info would help us such as:
- Update your pool and equipment info in your signature.
- Can you post a full set of water test results?
- Confirm which test kit you are using.
- How do you chlorinate on a daily basis?
- Do you routinely add any special pool store products to the water?
- Got any pics of this stringy stuff?

Craig,

High filter pressure, with low water flow, equals a dirty filter or something else restricting the flow of water..

Show us a bunch of pics of your equipment pad, so we can understand your plumbing.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yes, it drops to zero when turned off. When I turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes, at restart the pressure and flow will be normal. Within a hour or two the pressure goes up above 30 and the gpm drops to 12 from 25. The valves are all clean and set where pool people put them. The only thing after the filter is the heat pump.

Craig,

So... I don't see any return plumbing for your main filter pump.. The water comes out of your filter and right into the ground...

Where does it go? I suspect that you have an In-Floor-Cleaning System???

I also see what assume is a chiller, but see no exit pipes..

Tell us more about your pool equipment, and what the water has to flow through to get from the Filter's output and back into the pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It goes from the filter through a heat pump and back to the pool. We have a suction pool vac that runs on pool pressure. There is a second pump between the filter and heat pump for the water feature, but it draws water directly from the pool and doesn't affect the main pump at all.

Craig,

If we assume the filter is good, then that just leaves the heat pump and the plumbing itself..

Maybe that "white stringy stuff" that you found in the filter has made its way inside the heat pump.

I am assuming that at one time all this same equipment worked at well below 30 PSI and you had good flow. And.. your water is clear and not green..

If this were my pool, I would remove the heat pump (Seems to be installed with unions. ) and slide it back a little and run a temporary pipe or hose back to the pool and see what happens. I have no idea what you might have to do if the heat pump is actually clogged.

Let's see of @JamesW has any suggestions for you..

Thanks,

Jim R.
