Hoping for some help. All of a sudden, my pump won’t prime with pool drain alone. When drawing from the skimmer/spa combined with the main pool drain it works fine. All the baskets are clean, can anyone point me to the next step to fix this. Possibly a bad seal or an O-ring needing replaced in the main line? Thanks

Some of the reasons could be...
1. Main drain is plugged or partially plugged.
2. Main drain line has an air leak, most likely at the equipment pad valve.
3. If you have a suction side cleaner, I'd want to check the hose for air leaks.
There is almost never a reason to fully open the main drain anyway, so it would not normally be much of an issue. Main drains are not even really needed, and thousands and thousands of pools do not have an operating main drain and they all work just fine.
Our recommendation is to open the main drain valve about 10% and your skimmer line 100% or as wide open as possible.

Thanks for the help, I’ll start by looking for any leaks or bad seals in the main line first. I noticed it cause we got around 8 inches of rain so needed to drain some water to keep it from overflowing. Appreciate the help!
