Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyness!

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

Local stores rarely have the FAS-DPD test kit (K-2006). What you saw was the K-2005, which is only missing the FAS-DPD which you could buy separately, but if you are going to have to order it, you may as well order the entire kit ... preferably the TF100 BTW. Also the shipping from tftestkits.net is very fast.

pH is fine where it is. With a CYA of 50ppm, you should NEVER let the FC below 4ppm, which means you need to dose up to 7-8ppm everyday (not possible to measure with the DPD test in the K-2005 accurately)

Need to figure out what your stains are to figure how to proceed. So you can not scrap the spot off and rub it on a white piece of paper and see a green streak?

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

I will dose up the bleech to get the chlorine level up. As for the black spots I am going to get in tomorrow and double check on the scraping. A couple of weeks ago, it did not feel any different then the regular liner when i ran my feet over all the areas. They have never been able to be brushed away. They have, however, disappeared overnight after the black algecide stuff we were told to put it, but that was just overnight and then back again they came. I've attached some pictures for you to see. These stains have been present now for about 3 weeks. I would think that if it was black algea that it would have really taken over the entire pool by now but it really hasn't. It follows a somewhat of a circle path. I will post the ones I took on the 6th of July.

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

It's hard to tell through the water but that doesn't look like black algae at all.

Follow JB's advice and go ahead and order the TF-100. It'll help you solve this problem and prevent it and others in the future.

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

I will definately be ordering the kit tonight. I uped the chlorine yesterday, added some water as it was low. This morning I vacumed and then took a water sample in again. THey showed that my CYA went way up from 2 days ago. Here are the numbers.

2 days ago Today
FC 2.5 FC 1.5
TAC 2.5 TAC 1.5
PH 7.4 PH 7.5
TA 70 TA 100
CYA 50 CYA 100
CH 300 CH 175

Should I drain some water out in order to get my CYA down a bit or wait to get my test kit just to make sure that is what it really is? I'm not sure whether to dose my chlorine up to meet the new CYA number or not.

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

Wow, your CYA doubled, your CH dropped by almost 50%, and your TA went up by 50% ... that is just not physically possible unless you drained half the pool to lower your CH and then put a LOT of CYA back in as you filled and either your fill water was high in TA ... or dumped a bunch of baking soda in for good measure.

I would not trust any of their numbers and wait for you kit.

Re: Pool Store help not working - black algea/Stain? crazyne

I FINALLY GOT MY tAYLOR K-2006 KIT!!! I took quite a while reading over the directions and the site to make sure I understood how to properly test and these are my final results!!! Took me quite a while to do the whole shabang because I had to start over a couple of times on the different ones from just confusion and mix ups on my part but I feel better about the whole process now and confident about my results. Well, thats not actually true. I had a hard time and the Calcium Hardness test and so the results I am not sure about at ALL!!! It turned purple my first time at 30 drops so I then followed the further instructions and started over and began with the 5 drops of the 0012. It turned purple again so I wasn't quite sure about it so I thought let me see if I can continue the drops to see if I can get to a blue. Well it finally did get to blue but it was at about 47 drops. Here are the rest of my numbers. I was actually surprised at the numbers and then thought it would be interesting to use one of my old dip sticks for comparison. Wow....way different.
I'm hoping to start working on what may be causing those ugly marks at the bottom once I get the chemistry regulated better!! Any advise or suggestions anyone could offer in regards to that would be so greatly appreciated.

CYA 60
PH 7.4
TA 90
FC 0
CC .5
CH 300 or 470? Not quite sure on that one
