If you cleaned with just a soft cloth no problem, but anything abrasive even liquid metal cleaner might and I write might damage the contacts.
As regards Aquapure my neighbour (20,000 gals) has the 1400 model about the same time I have had mine so 10 hours a day everyday of the year for 3 years, his cell just went out and so did his sensor. I do not know whether or not that is a good or not so good as regards time.
