Polaris 9650iQ and waterline cleaning

I recently got this cleaner and have a question on waterline cleaning process (first time owning a robot). My expectation was that in waterline mode, it will float and swim across the water surface and do the cleaning but not seeing that behavior. It climbs up the wall and cleans the waterline then goes down and goes up again at a different spot. Is that the expected behavior?

I believe if you have it set for waterline only it will travel the waterline and may or may not go down and back up but it should get most of it done.
