Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 520 - Bulkhead Union Kit or Valve Adapter Kit?

So I have a Pentair CCP520, built in 2016. It's missing union nut and fitting on the outside that would connect to the pipes from the pump and heater. It has the threaded part that is connected to the bottom bulkhead of the filter. But for the life of me, can't figure out what part goes where. The Pentair diagram doesn't help at all it's so small and blurry. The Union kit is on top, the valve adapter kit on bottom. I think I need the union kit, but what is the valve adapter kit for?

Either will work, the slip is just different sizes. The one on top will fit 1.5” pipe inside and 2”coupling on the outside. The one on bottom will fit 2” pipe on the inside and 2.5” coupling on the outside.
