If the "bleach" discussion comes up again, go get a bottle of chlorine/pool shock and place the bleach bottle and chlorine bottle side by side. Have HER compare the ingredients.

The "10% Sodium Hypochlorite" is pretty clear. It's the "90% Other Ingredients" that freaks her out. Why can't they just say 90% water?? I'd show her the MSDS but even they don't list the water content.

Oh well, Ollie's has 1 Gal 12.5% "Pool Tech Shock" for $2.49. That's cheaper than Walmart bleach AND the 5 gallon carboys from the pool store. I'll fight that battle next time bleach goes on sale. In the meantime I'll keep occasionally referring to it as "bleach" to warm her up to the idea :lol:

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have lead with that. :lol: I actually was (and still am) more interested in the technical question that followed. Even though I have the CYA test now, I'm still interested in the chemistry/theory behind it. Well, off to the deep end
