Hello all, we live in north central Florida in the woods. Have a 40 or so year old pool that we’re having remodeled this fall. We’ve lived here for 5 years and battled algae every summer, finally realized our pool filter was way undersized, so we replaced it this weekend. With the remodel upcoming we’re looking at options like maybe switching to salt water and just looking to learn in general.

Filters have nothing to do with algae - if you have algae, it's because you do not have sufficient sanitation (ie. chlorine.)
The good news is - self testing and managing the very few chemicals needed is very easy!
I recommend reading pool school (over on left side), investing in a proper test kit, and preparing for SLAM (Shock level and maintain!)
Once you peruse pool school, come back with any questions.
