Not getting a CYA reading

Received the cya today, using the sock method. It’s a slow process. I do get a cya reading now which shows 30.

When testing PH, initial reading shows 7.4 but if I wait 5 mins, the color becomes darker and it then shows 8.0, which is the more accurate reading?

pH test is invalid with FC above 10 ppm.

Cya now shows 70, I used one 10 lb bag but it’s up because I had used plenty of trichlor tabs while waiting 4 days for the delivery of cya

Doesn't it often take a few days, perhaps as much as a week, for the added CYA to show up in the test?

Marty - Pool is roughly 70% clear - it’s day 10 of SLAM and I feel the whole process is moving way too slow. Is there anything else I can do? FC shows 28, CYA shows 70-80, I’ve got the SWG set at 100%. There are no leaves or debris in the pool, I can see bottom of the deep end. Each day it only improves slightly.

Have you added DE to the sand filter?

I will do that for sure today, I was thinking the same since there is no longer a need for me to backwash as I did in the first few days.

DE will increase the pressure, do I just ignore the reduced flow at the pool return?

Add DE to a Sand Filter

A clean pool filter will increase the efficiency of your pool! ... your filter are to backwash it, clean the manifolds and grids, and add new DE.

You still backwash once filter pressure rises by 25% over clean pressure. This may happen quickly. Repeat adding DE.

Pool is sparkling blue now finally - that took a solid two -three weeks. I cleared roughly a 33 gallon trash container amount of leaves during this process from the deep end, I’m guessing they were what was contributing mostly to the algae buildup. Any way, just wanted to say thanks for the guidance.

Great to hear. Solid debris in a pool really slows the process.
