Dichlor dissolves right away so the CYA from it will measure in tests as soon as it gets mixed thoroughly throughout the pool, usually in 30 minutes to an hour if circulation is decent and the pump is running. It's pure CYA that is slow to dissolve and if added to the skimmer to get caught in the filter, then that can take up to a week to fully dissolve. With the sock method or having the CYA in a bag or T-shirt in the skimmer, the CYA dissolves more quickly due to the water flow and usually mostly shows up in the next day or two and fully registers in 3 or so days. That's been the experience in my own pool.
