Newbies in search of help and tips for getting started

I'd wait till it's dissolved. Won't take that long. Give it a squeeze every once in awhile to help it along. The stabilizer is also a buffer for the chlorine so it's not so harsh on things. You can also go a little higher on the SLAM level.
You also have to have POP...... Pool Owner Patience ! ?

I am going to differ a bit. Get the CYA in the water dissolving and then you can start SLAMing right away. A FC of 10 ppm should be fine, or if you want lower it a bit until you confirm the CYA has come up. No need to wait.

The whole key Supercal is maintaining the shock level. The longer you can maintain the shock level the quicker the process will go. Test as often as you can and when it falls below bring it back up. ?

+1

The key is getting it there, holding it, and not letting it fall more than you can possibly help. Hang in there, it will come around.
