You can do a better job, more economically than a service. Most of my neighbors pay for services and their pools are constantly going green and equipment failing. Granted, depending on how deep your DIY spirit runs, you may choose to get a professional involved in some things (plumbing, electrical, etc...). But learn the day to day maintenance and you'll maximize your enjoyment out of the pool.
