Hi everyone, new to this forum. I need some help I have been reading about plaster mottling. We just got done with our pool in vegas and here are some pics of discoloration the pool was finished 2 weeks ago. I am aware since it’s plaster it might have some difference in curing but is this a bad plaster job? The excuse I am getting is this is normal marbelling with plaster. Can someone who does/knows pool plaster chime in and help . What should I be asking this builder if you think this is bad plaster so I can counter his claims. They said they can look at it in 6 months as plaster takes time to cure and they can then address it if needed but as of now it looks normal Thanks for your help in advance. Pics attached when plaster was done and with water in it.(please ignore reflection of the palm trees) I hope you can see the discoloration in the water(tahoe blue plaster)

Welcome to TFP.

I hate to tell you this but it looks average for dark blue plaster. Darker plaster tend to mottel more.

I doubt it will change much over 6 months.

Your builder will offer to acid wash it and you should say no thanks. Acid washing will just take off a layer of plaster, etch the plaster, and leave you with thinner plaster and less life to you plaster.

In a few weeks take some 80/100 grit wet/dry sandpaper to some mottled areas and see what color is under the surface. Sanding the pool surface may even out the colors a bit without damaging it the way acid does.
