New home...1st time pool owner....a green pool....HELP!

Are you adding chlorine in the evening and morning only, or throughout the day as well? I ask because if only in the morning and evening, it might take longer to kill off the remaining organics because of chlorine loss to sunlight and remaining organics during the day.
 
Here are the transformation pics......5 days and alot of TLC (not to mention ALOT of chlorine as well!!)...and well worth it!
