Just replaced a standard Century (AO) 1.4 motor a two months back. Now with the first real cold spell, this new motor is already making that typical metal on metal screeching sound at start up along with slow rotation. It was always my understanding that you just plugged and played these things or is there some sort if maintenance i need to be doing on this thing, new or not? thx, SR

But am i correct that i am not supposed to perform any initial or ongoing maintenance to these motors? This is certainly not normal....

The motor should not require any maintenance.

Can you remove the motor and show the front of the motor?

Can you show the motor label?

What impeller do you have?

When did you buy the motor?

Do you have a receipt?

What is the supply voltage?

Is the motor set to the correct voltage?

It should be under warranty as long as you did not do anything wrong to damage the motor.

A seal leak, the wrong voltage or an overloaded motor can damage the motor and the damage is not a warranty item.
