Looking for major assistance in figuring out new home pool/spa threads

We just purchased a home with the attached pool controls but am unable to figure out how to only heat the spa and not drain it or heat the pool. Any assitance is greatly appreciated.

Controls include
Pool Main Drain, Cleaner, Skimmer, Spa Main Drain
Spa Return, Pool Return, Return

Close all pool returns and open just the spa return. Close all pool suction and open only the spa suction (spa main drain). Be absolutely sure to never close all the return ports as that becomes very dangerous. Automation and replumbing would make pool use so much simpler.

As poolman points out...

You want to suck all the water from the Spa Drain and have all the water go back to the Spa Return, when you want to run the spa.. None of the other valves should be open, when you are in the Spa mode...
