Looking for Inspiration - Waterfall Separate from Pool

Hi all,

We are considering an inground pool installation - possibly this fall. We're leaning towards a freeform in the back corner of our property. We also love waterfalls and have discussed installing a waterfall in the backyard. We're wondering whether we can possibly combine these ideas - but instead of doing a traditional pool waterfall, we would like a waterfall we can keep open and enjoy a greater portion of the year than the pool itself (we live in the northeast). Possibly a disappearing waterfall that doesn't actually communicate with the pool?

At this point, I'm mostly looking for inspiration builds/pics if anyone has done something similar. Or reasons this is actually a terrible idea lol.

Thank you!

There are many free-standing water features (falls) available. Just do a google search for "free standing waterfall." Some are quite impressive in their pictures.
They are self-contained structures that have their own pump and water reservoir. No filter to keep the water clean, no chemicals to keep the water algae free (though there are some chems made for that purpose). One built into a pool has the benefit of using treated and filtered water.
If you want something custom built, be prepared to spend many thousands.
There's a saying in the pool business, "There's two kinds of waterfalls, those that leak and those that are going to leak."
Water flowing evaporates faster than sitting in a pool, so water levels have to be watched if the fall is used a lot.
Falls are beautiful and the sound, if the flow is right, very soothing.
The benefit must outweigh the maintenance that a separate fall would take.
Can't tell you how many of these type of water features I have had to try to repair because of lack of maintenance.
There may be a garden center, or pool and pond company in your area that carries what you are looking for.
