I have an inground pool. I've started trying to do most of the maintenance myself but it's a learning curve!

tldr: return jet leaks even after new gasket, need advice to repair.

Liner is about 10 years old, but has had no problems so far. About a month ago when the air started getting drier, we started losing a lot of water. Didn't think much of it since that happens. Anyway, that kept happening so we did a bucket test. Clearly a leak. A dye test showed a leak behind one return jet faceplate. Sure enough, took the faceplate off, and maybe 30% of the gasket was left.

Pool store told me it was a Jacuzzi part, so sold me a new faceplate and a white rubber gasket. Put that on, and it's still leaking. Do I need to replace what's behind the liner too? With another rubber gasket?

If so, I assume I need to lower my water below the jets? Any other tips?

Thanks for your help!

Post pics of the return and the parts you have.

Here is a picture of my return jet with the water partially lowered. Also the parts that I have. I put one of the white gaskets behind the return jet in the picture (not behind the liner). Pool store told me the grey cardboard style should replace anything behind the liner, and no gasket was needed poolside? This doesn't sound right to me. Advice appreciated!
