Keeping O-rings in place during assembly

Hello all
I am getting ready to open my pool. Today I disconnected my pump so that I could lub the O-rings. I can not get the O-rings to stay in their grooves during reassembly. The suction side one mostly stays in place, the one on the discharge will not stay in the groove. Any suggestions

Did you try adding a little pool lube to the ring to help?

Did you try adding a little pool lube to the ring to help?

I did lube the ring sparingly, maybe I just need to add more so that it acts like an adhesive
