We have a koi pond that has been inoperative for 10+ years. It’s equipped with an Aqua Ultraviolet Ultima II 4000 filteration and sanitation system. The manufacturer support has been helpful and we learned that the UV unit was incorrectly installed upside down.
Before we invest in fixing the installation error and doing the needed maintenance work on the filter, I just wanted to understand if this will result in a clear pond and whether we will need to use any chemicals on an ongoing basis.

New2Water! There may be a lack of response because Koi Pond care is very different than Pools & Spas.

I hate sending people away from TFP, but as you are a member because of your pool, you might want to check out the largest Koi and pond community on the internet...they may be better equipped to help.

Buwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I saw a phosphate thead and that place is TFP for Koi. You'll be in good hands there N2W. Check this response:

Why do you say the phosphate is 'dangerously' high? What's the reading? Usually high phosphates produce algae over-growth. Your photo shows clear water and healthy koi, although they do look to be on the thin side. If the koi are doing fine, what's the problem? ...Don't let numbers alone drive your koikeeping

Actually you need a really good bio filter. When I was keeping koi I had one large tub and fought with it. So I installed another 70 gal filter and never had another clarity issue. I found the UV tubes being more about pests than nitrate levels. They kill bacteria and other pests like water lice. Also resist the desire to clean both filters at the same time. If you do you will have an issue with your nitrites. When I moved I have too many things that treat koi like chocolate.

Again the key to clarity is bio filtration not UV. The bloom should not occur in the first place. That sand filter is not the right equipment.
