Jandy actuator valve problem

My Jandy actuator has just recently begun “sticking” several times during opening and closing. It “grinds” until I physically help it with light pressure. I removed the top and lubricated the spindle etc. Visual inspection of the spindle teeth seem to be fine. Switches on both sides of the valve seem to be starting and stopping correctly once the valve travels to the activation spots. Before I rip into the rest of the box, would I expect a teeth problem on the gears in the lower section of the box? What does it sound like to you?

How old is it? Since you have already been in it I would continue with that path. New ones are not that expensive and easy to replace if you can't get it going.
