This migt be slightly off-topic but I don't know who else to ask.... I have an inground pool, vinyl lining, and pool house (details in signature). We are changing companies and the previous policy said "blanket" under "Other Structures" and that covered the pool. The new agent looked up our house on whatever system they used and assigned a value of $54,000 to other structures and he said the pool falls under that. We don't get earthquakes and the pool is not that close to the house so I can't imagine a disaster that would entail redoing the pool from scratch. So does that seem reasonable? Any disaster stories anyone wants to share? Should I call my pool installer? (We bought the house with the pool but use the same company to close the pool every year).

(This does not include medical for accidents -- that is covered in the main policy).

FYI we live in Central Indiana and are switching to State Farm. Thanks for any help!

If you’re asking if $54k sounds like a reasonable value to have to insure, I would think its low compared to actual costs of replacing/repair should disaster happen to an in-gound. If you’re asking if the extra premiums are worth the coverage (which might be limited), thats a whole different question.

If you’re able to get some sort of coverage for the pool without it breaking the bank, go for it. Its only worth it in hindsight when disaster happens but then it’s really worth it.

What is the monthly/annual charge for the $54k of coverage?

What is covered?

Most importantly ... What are the EXCLUSIONS and LIMITATIONS?

Any insurer can offer you an estimate of value and coverage but it's the exclusions and limitation that work in their favor when a disaster strikes. If they are going to exclude any damage caused "by an Act of God" or limit coverage under certain circumstances, then the coverage may be worthless in any real-life scenario. That's what you have to think about and then determine if the additional monthly cost is worth it to you.
