first year of Infiniti pool winterization located in northern Utah. Blew out all the pipes and pumps of the catch basin and pool. Pool has an automatic cover and is ready for the winter. Trying to decide if to cover catch basin in an attempt to keep water out. Is it necessary? Will it be hard on the plaster to leave it uncovered, and filled with occasional snow melt? I’m considering 2x4s and tarps, but it will still be difficult to keep all water out of the catch basin. Thoughts and suggestions please. Basin 30” wide by 40’ long.

Water freezing on plaster can cause spalling so I would try and keep the catch basin dry or fill it up with a few inches of water so any ice does not freeze on the plaster surface.
