How to replace cracked pump union?

My pump has not been fully priming and I've identified the cause... the union (I think that's what it's called at least) going into my pump has cracked:


For now, I've unscrewed and greased the connection, then wrapped the whole mess in plastic wrap and duct tape and the pump is now priming reasonably well. My question is... how do I go about replacing this? My assumption is that if I remove the top cap I could slide the entire pump backwards enough to remove and replace the cracked union:

(By the way- this is an old picture before the thing cracked when it was priming fine)

Am I off base here? Anything else I should be thinking about?

You could try finding the right sized split nut union.

I had a similar split for the union on the SWCG. I had to aggie rig it as outlined in post #8 below. Several months later its still holding up and I didnt have to cut any of the PVC. Good luck and hope that helps!

IC40 Union Seam Leak

My IC40 is leaking at one of the unions, right at the "seam" where the two plastic halves of the nut come together. It looks like it was manufactured that way. Water is bubbling up at the seam and dripping onto the equipment pad. I can pinch the 2 sides of the nut together and the leak...

I used a split nut union on my Hayward SWG cell. That's how I knew about them. I've sold the house but it's still in use by the new owner. Probably in use about 6 years.

Jandy stuff is proprietary so not sure the split nut union will work for you.

Well after confirming the proprietary Jandy union nonsense, I had a pool plumber come out and install a new union. $315 later the pool is running again
