Just opened pool for season and accidentally released all the tree debris and slugde/algae swamp water into the pool. UGH! Anyway, i have a 24ft above ground pool. Added 2 gallons of liquid shock and tested my CHlorine which was 15ppm. MY CYA is between 30-40ppm which tells me my SLAM target should be 12ppm of chlorine. However after 24 hours my chlorine is still testing at 15ppm. without adding any more chlorine. Doesnt this mean algae is NOT present? I was able to vacuum a lot of the debris and water still cloudy. Thoughts? Do I need to continue slamming?

I would. If there's no algae, you won't be losing much FC to organics; if some gets started, you'll kick yourself for not stopping it beforehand.
CC is 0.5 or lower;
You pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
And the water is clear. And that means even after brushing.
I was between the 30 and the 40ppm CYA. Should I go with 30 or 40 for the slam chlorine amount?
