Help installing new pump

Amazon just delivered the new pump and it's also damaged. On top of that, it appears to be a returned item. They're sending a new one (this will be the third so far!).

Wanted to double check on my installation plans before it arrives though:

1) Cut both pipes at the pump
2) Use an MTA on both openings (I can't find any unions locally and amazon is backordered)
3) I've got all purpose cement for the MTA to that grey pipe, and pipe dope for the threads into the pump

Here's what I would suggest:

1) Cut the grey suction pipe at the pump.
2) Cut the plumbing at the pump discharge where it makes the most sense.
3) Install the suction MTA into the pump.
4) Create a good base for the pump where it will line up with the suction.
5) Glue the pump MTA and slide the pump into place.
6) Plumb the discharge as needed.
