This pump is unfortunately notorious for drive failures w in the first year and even the replacements don't last too long. I'm not too sure what the whining sound could be bc none have made it that long 4.5 yrs...I would suspect a bearing, but I'm in unchartered waters. Have you called Hayward support to determine their opinion?
