Hayward Sand Filter Replacement

Let me start by saying I am converting my pool to SWG this year.

The pool company that I use to open and close (and repair if need be) recommended I replace my sand filter. This is without actually checking it

My original plan was to clean it; as it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. I just started using this website last year and now I know what should be done.

They based this idea on its due to age and the amount of labor it will cost to clean; and the likeliness that something is broken in it.

The question is; is that total BS?
