Last Summer we noticed a faint cloud of sand entering the pool as the pump restarted after a backwash & rinse. The problem continued this year, probably worsened. I suspected a broken lateral, so got a new assembly and took apart the filter. I looked up close and felt the undersides of the laterals and they all seem fine. After taking it apart, found out that I'll need to make a wrench to take of the nuts which hold the upper and lower pipes into the sand filter. So I was not able to finish removal today. But it surprised me that I didn't see one broken or missing.
I did take a photo of the lower pipe where it joins with the lateral assembly. Is that space supposed to be there, or should it fit tight up against it?
The filter also seems to be less effective, take longer to clear the pool during a SLAM.
Any thoughts?
